Way back when | 2013 to 2014

It's the first post of 2014!! This new year already seems pretty exciting. Okay so I've been planning this post in my head for a while now, because I have the inclination to do such things, and I guess this post is gonna look back on the wild year that was 2013 and what is to come (or like resolutions) in 2014. Hope it'll help me to set things straight this year and like, remind myself that I put these things down in black & white. Sounds so serious, but here goes!
So, 2013. Huge year. O Levels (we made it!!). So. Much. Studying. 2nd place for B Div and sobbing on the field but feeling real proud eventually. New friendships!! Graduation :(
One word that keeps popping up in my mind when talking about 2013 is 'emotional' because there really were so many ups and downs for everything from school to relationships and all that. I am left with regrets, yes, but also lots of bloody good memories that can't be traded for anything. I was weighed down with loads of insecurities and self-doubt but I honestly can feel myself learning to let go and like focusing on improvement instead of the flaws. Just stop comparing yourself to others because that'll just set you on a vicious cycle of jealousy and self-loathe, which gets you nowhere. So get away from the negativity and only do what makes you feel better about yourself. Self-acceptance reigns above all. Only then can you look past things you simply can't control/change and work on becoming better in areas which you can control. Sounds really old-school and stuff, but it's true and last year made me realize that much more.
Wow so many things happened last year, I wished you could see all of them in flashes but there's only so much I can do haha anyway the past is the past so what will 2014 be like then???
I'm excited yet intimidated by everything that's going to come. By now, I've pretty much set my sights on poly already but I'm still visiting a JC open house tomorrow just out of curiosity haha no harm right? So I'm really interested in Apparel Design & Merchandising (ADM) at Temasek Poly because how awesome would it be to work as a merchandiser/visual merchandiser/stylist even in the future?! But yes, results day isn't even here yet so we'll see. And if the poly plan follows through, I'm gonna get involved in part-time jobs before my term starts which is so very exciting.
In 2014, I really want to accomplish things that I never really thought about doing. It could be really small like finally tidying up my wardrobe lol or like doing interesting challenges (saying this because I just came across this 30 day poetry challenge from tumblr and I am going to attempt it!) or exercising more regularly to huge things like idk super cool fashion projects or developments in the food blog or take part in large-scale social events or something hahaha. Who knows what the year will bring?
So yes, I'd like to be a better person. More mature, more outgoing, more cheerful, more insightful, more intriguing. Less waiting, more doing. Also, a reminder to myself to put more effort into bringing my camera out more to take good photos for this little space.
If you guys have read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (and if you haven't, what on earth are you waiting for???), something big to look forward to this year...that is, the movie for it will be coming!! I'm so stoked you don't even know. That magnificent book is now my favourite read and I really can't wait to see it for myself. I already love the cast. So yeah, one of the countless things happening this year which excite me.
Hope you guys had a great 2013 and don't worry, 2014 is gonna be smashing. Thanks for reading see ya xx

edited // here's a kick-ass song to kick off the new year cuz why not?

Congrats on being one of the top o level students!! I feel like its a waste if you go to poly but since fashion is what you like i think its more important for you to do what you enjoy! I was so happy for you seeing your name on the slide just now :')

I should be thanking you instead! To be honest i've been reading your blog for quite a long time and reading your posts about your struggles/problems in relationship/studies etc and seeing how you overcame all those really inspired me alot! Especially when you went to collect your prize during farewell assembly last year, i think you got like 7 points if i remembered correctly!! I really admire how strong you are, holding on despite all the adversities you went through. You made me believe that i can achieve it in my O's and prelims at the end of this year as well :-) Oh and your posts about self-acceptance and insecurity also encouraged me alot especially on those days where i feel so insecure and just imperfect!! I love reading your blog because it's just makes me feel better and calmer cos i can relate to your posts i guess haha, knowing that there's someone going through the same yet still holding on :-) and it's a pity you left crescent but im still excited to read your future posts on poly life hehe. :-)
