"oblivion"

The state of being completely forgotten and unknown.

First thing that comes to mind is TFIOS, obviously, and I think of Augustus Waters unabashedly declaring his fear of it. Hazel tells him to ignore it, and I agree, because what else can we do anyway? And then I think of a black abyss. Not sure why, but thats how I imagine oblivion to be I guess. Absolutely nothing.
I don't fear oblivion. It's not something we can control or predict, and I doubt we'll be having an apocalypse any time soon. I don't care that one day, my name and everything I am known for will cease to exist. Whatever legacy I've left behind, whatever trail I've blazed will disappear along with the ashes of humanity and I really, really just do not care. For by then I will probably be lying in a grave, and the only people who care if I'm dead or alive will probably be doing the same. So it doesn't matter if I'm unknown to strangers, what matters is now. So goddamned cliché but true. Maybe the Augustus Waters in the world have high hopes for doing great feats and having their names archived in the history books for eternity. Oblivion is going to do a fine job at crushing their dreams. Well, I guess it's nice to have ambitions but don't lose sight of the present, you know? Let the people who know and love you now remember you. While working on bringing good to the world, bring good to the people closest to you. I just feel that compliments from people you actually know mean more than those from strangers.
I don't know much about oblivion. Is there just going to be one big, serious oblivion that will wipe out the earth or what? Maybe there are small metaphorical oblivions that people experience, if that even makes sense. Well, if you're feeling forgotten by the world, I shall tell you that I'm quite comfortable with being a wallflower. Don't crave to be popular, because being a wallflower means that the people who actually notice you and make the effort to get to know you, are pretty special. And trust me, you'll never be completely forgotten (unless the entire human race gets killed).
