"sunflower"

Nobody loved sunflowers as much as she did. Some people say sunflowers are their favourite but they don't lace the walls of their room with them like she did. She loved receiving tons of them on her birthday, but you should have seen the grin on her face when she hands them out to people on their birthdays and at school concerts. "Thanks for being a sunflower in my life" she would scribble on the notes attached to the the stalks, and it just made people feel good, you know?

I don't think it's necessary to have a favourite flower but I do like how symbolic they all are. Sunflowers - I mean they're bright and sunny and happy but tell me I'm not the only one who gets SLIGHTLY bothered by the dark prickly centre which doesn't look VERY APPEALING. Besides that, I appreciate the existence of sunflowers and everybody should try to be a sunflower in their own and someone else's life. What a graceful metaphor, to be likened to a flower.

So maybe next time on your birthday, or on the first day of school, give people you care about sunflowers for a change. Be like her; let her positivity grow on you and spread. Tell people how grateful you are for their existence, that they bring you more happiness and hope than any sunflower ever could. Tell them how radiant they always look (brighter than the sun) and how their kindness grows, like a flower in summer. And if you're up to it, give them to strangers on your usual routes, to someone who looks like they need a little faith or someone who made your day. Be their sunflower and shower them with hospitality. We could all use some of that.

ps. thanks for sending in your words and phrases, they've been really good though sometimes I just get writer's block or it takes me a while to come up with something I actually like. As much as I like to write for myself, I hope you like what you've been reading ;-)
